Softball: Warren and Zion-Benton to meet for a winner-take-all conference showdown

Updated: May 7, 2012 8:24PM

This is the twelth year for the North Suburban Conference Championship Game in the sport of softball.

The contest matches the winners of the Lake (big schools) and Prairie (small schools) divisions to crown an overall conference champion.

In those 12 years, Zion-Benton has played for title three times, but never since joining the Lake Division for the 2006 season.

Lake Zurich joined the North Suburban Conference for the 2006 season and has played in every championship that is has been eligibile — five appearances in five years.

Warren?

Zero appearances. Zip. Nil. None.

But that likely will change if the Blue Devils can beat Zion-Benton on Tuesday in what amounts to a winner-take-all showdown on the Zee-Bees’ field.

If Warren wins, it will be 10-1 in the league with a game left against one of the division’s bottom-feeders.

A Warren loss will put Zion-Benton (9-1 with a win) in the driver’s seat, with Lake Zurich (two division losses, both to Warren) still in the title picture.

Zion and Lake Zurich will play each other on Wednesday.
