Softball: Jamie Dykstra, Taylor Dishinger pace Lakes past Antioch

Jamie Dykstra had a pair of RBI hits to back the pitching of Taylor Dishinger as host Lakes beat rival Antioch 5-2 on Tuesday to stay in the hunt for the North Suburban Prairie title.
The Eagles are now 7-2 in the division (15-8 overall). Meanwhile, the loss effectively ended Antioch’s three-year reign atop the division standings.
The game was scoreless until the fifth, when Lakes broke three runs on hits by Marisa Thackston (single), Sara Braden (RBI single), Dykstra (RBI triple) and Megan Milewski (RBI single up the middle).
Milewski’s hit knocked out starter Katie Phillips, and Kathleen Keefe finished up.
Antioch got two unearned runs in the sixth, but Lakes put it away with two of its own in the bottom of the inning.
“Dish (Dishinger) did a great job for us,” said Lakes coach Bill Hamill. “She really worked the corners and kept them off-balance. That was all we could as for from her.
Dishinger fanned four and allowed five hits and no walks.
Despite the loss, Antioch first-year coach Anthony Rocco said his team still has a pulse in the division race.
“We’re going to need some luck. Lakes has two losses, so we need somebody to beat them, and we’re going to need some help with Vernon Hills,” he said. “Our goal is 20 wins and to be in the division ace. I think we’re close.”
Both teams play Mundelein next — Lakes on Wednesday and Antioch on Thursday.
