Anyone for thirds?

That is the question after Hinsdale Central’s junior tandem of Marika Cusick and Caroline Lorenzini won their second consecutive state doubles and Morgan Park Academy junior Jerricka Boone won her second title in three years Saturday at Prospect.

Hinsdale Central (39 points) easily outdistanced runner-up New Trier (28) and third-place Stevenson (21 ) to claim the team title.

It was the fifth state title in the last six years for Hinsdale Central, and the first for coach Robin Kramer.

“This has been a special year,” Kramer said. “It was truly a team effort. They really wanted it from the beginning of the year. That’s why they were so focussed.”

Cusick and Lorenzini defeated Nazareth’s Alysa Straub and Alexia Petrovic 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 in the doubles finals. The duo became the first doubles team to repeat since 2007.

“This one is much better,” Cusick said. “It was a tough match. But we play well together.”

“We have been friends since we were six,” Lorenzini said. “And it is almost like we can read each other’s mind.”

Cusick and Lorenzini (27-1) knocked off Stevenson’s Alexxis Kiven and Kendall Kirsch in the semifinals 6-3, 6-3. The Stevenson pair then beat Decatur St. Theresa’s Tracey Kuhle and Amy Kuhle 7-6 (6), 6-2 for third place.

Boone rallied to defeat Lyons’ Alex Chatt 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 as she capped her comeback after missing last year with an injury to her right wrist.

“This one was sweeter because I did not think I would make it back,” Boone said. “[Chatt] had me running out there. So I mixed it up. I gave her alot of high balls and when I had the opportunity I would attack.”

Hinsdale Central’s Alex Solovyev topped Wheaton Warrenville South’s Keisha Clousing 7-6 (10), 6-4 for third place.
