Mundelein High School’s Ari Dechter has a unique distinction as she heads into her final state tennis tournament.

The Mustang star is the only senior seeded in the top eight in the singles draw of this year’s 128-player state meet.

The tourney will be held Thursday-Saturday on courts in the Arlington Heights area.

Carolina Ryba of Glenbrook South is the top seed, and she’s a junior. Among the top-eight seeds who aren’t seniors are Carmel sophomore Brienne Minor and Lake Forest junior Elizabeth Zordani.

There are, in fact, just three seniors seeded among the top 16 singles players.

In doubles, two-time defending state champs Marika Cusick and Caroline Lorenzini of Hinsdale Central are trying for a three-peat.

The area’s top-seeded doubles team is the unique pairing of Maddie Lipp and Christina Zordani of Lake Forest.

Due to injury, Lipp and Zordani basically just started playing together for this tourney, but are the No. 3-4 seed in a strong field.

Hinsdale Central is the defending team champion.
