Two-time defending state champion Lake Forest kept its hopes for a three-peat alive by finishing second in the Class 3A Barrington Sectional on Monday.

Also qualifying for state were victorious Barrington (314 to Lake Forest’s 320) and Highland Park (325), ,which beat out Carmel (also 325) for the final berth at state on the fifth-score tiebreaker.

The state tourney is this Friday and Saturday. In golf, the top three teams at a sectional and the top 10 golfers not on a qualifying team advance to state.

Monday’s sectional was played at Makray Memorial GC (Thunderbird) in Barrington.

Ian Mankoff and Drew Barrett each shot 78 for the Scouts and Drew Takas had an 80.

Noah Aper shot 78 and Patrick Flavin 80 for Highland Park.

Ryan Craig of Huntley was medalist with a 1-under 70.
