Boys Track: Top 10 teams, top 50 individuals

Top Teams

1. Lake Park: Despite the loss of triple state champ Zach Ziemek and star throwers Jermaine and Jeremy Kline, the Lancers hope to repeat their Class 3A title.

2. Oak Park-River Forest: Distance ace Malachy Schrobilgen and defending 3A high-jump winner Carl Heinz might help the Huskies win their first trophy since 1987.

3. Neuqua Valley: Jacob Bender and Mark Derrick have the Wildcats aiming for their third trophy in four seasons.

4. Thornwood: This looks like the Thunderbirds’ best team since the glory days of the early 2000s.

5. York: The Dukes have won six state trophies in the last seven years and always find a way to be in the hunt.

6. Plainfield North: Exceptional depth, especially in the relays, might put the Tigers over the top in the tough Southwest Prairie and make them a force at state.

7. Plainfield South: Another Southwest Prairie power, the Cougars appear to be solid across the board.

8. Deerfield: A program on the rise, the Warriors won their first sectional and were fifth in 3A last spring.

9. Providence: Pole vaulter Chad Weaver leads a team that might put Celtics track on the map.

10. St. Ignatius: A deep distance crew will keep the Wolfpack competitive.
