Hinsdale Central junior Olivia Yu booked her first state berth in an individual event by winning the 100-yard backstroke in 59.42 seconds at the Downers Grove South Sectional on Saturday. She added a state berth in the 200 medley relay (1:49.35).

The Trevians qualified all 21 of their sectional entrants – 18 individuals and three relays – for the first day of the two-day state swimming meet. New Trier’s depth, along with four event victories, helped the Trevians win the Glenbrook South Sectional championship 283.50-254 over Glenbrook South.

St. Ignatius senior Jack Keelan won the three-mile Class 3A race in 14 minutes, 5 seconds to beat Prospect’s Quentin Shaffer (14:14). Keelan joins Mike Patton (1980) as St. Ignatius’ only boys cross country state champions and two-time state medalists.

Lincoln-Way West’s Natalie Waters earned All-State honors Saturday placing 13th (17:36) in the Class 2A race. Minooka’s Joey Santillo (14th, 14:41) made All-State, while Plainfield East’s Joseph Suarez was another All-State performer finishing 19th.

The Illiana Christian boys and girls cross country teams made the top 10 at Saturday’ state meet. The boys finished sixth in Class 2A (202 points) while the girls were 10th (297). Sandburg took 11th-place for the boys and 13th for the girls.
