For the second straight year Young took home the Public League girls volleyball title as The Dolphins downed Payton 25-21, 25-20 at UIC Saturday afternoon.

”It’s a great feeling to win again,” said Young’s Madisen Lenzini, who had 14 kills and three assists.

Both games took on the same pattern. Young (27-2) pulled out to a 5-2 lead, but the Grizzlies (20-9) came back to lead 10-9. Then the Dolphins pulled away.

In the second game Young led 12-8. The Grizzlies went on a 7-2 run to lead 15-14, but Young countered with a 9-3 surge and held on for the win.

“It was a little frustrating because we were not as aggressive as we normally are. We made some errors,” said Young coach Jaime Walters.

“We knew we had to pick up our energy,” Cincinnati recruit Hanna Lee said. “After we did that, we felt confident we would win.”

Payton’s Alyssa Astrada had 13 assists, Morgan Barnes had four kills and Michelle Schultz put up six kills, two aces and nine digs in a losing effort.

The serving by Young’s Tori Walsh (15 digs) played a big part in the win. “She served well, and kept us ahead,” Walters said.
