Katie Rotkovich, 17, of Oak Lawn, is an outside hitter. She is a four-year varsity player.
Why Queen of Peace?
I went to a grammar school where all the girls went to McAuley or Marist. I looked at those schools and they were OK, but when I went to Peace, I loved it that all the girls were nice to me and welcomed me with open arms.
How important is winning to you?
Winning is a big deal to me. I mean, I go out there to have fun, but I also have a goal set in my mind. I want to win, period.
What’s in your iPod?
Mainly country and rap. All of my friends listen to country.
If you could join the cast of any reality show, what show would it be and why?
“Jersey Shore,” because I love Pauly D.
What upcoming opponents make it hard to sleep the night before the match?
Probably when we play McAuley. And another big school we want to beat is Providence.
Any story behind your uniform number (9)?
When I first started playing in grammar school I picked it out. When my mom was coaching we’d always win. Then one year I got 15 and we lost. So I wanted to be 9 all the time after that.
If you could be one of your teammates for a day, who would it be?
Probably Erica Buck or Kaylynn Yerkes. They’re just such a good time. And my friend, Kaylynn, her mom is awesome and makes the best food in the world. And Erica comes from a really loving family.
What’s the longest time you spend on your computer on Facebook?
Probably two hours, if I’m talking to someone. Or if I’m really bored I like to creep people.
What talent don’t you have that you wish you did?
I want to learn to dance better. I have rhythm, but I want more rhythm.
When you get mad, what usually happens next?
I just scream, or tune people out, like, “Don’t talk to me.” I keep to myself then.
What’s the nicest thing anybody has ever said to you?
That I have a pretty smile.
When you look in the mirror, what does it tell you about yourself?
That I’m a fun, outgoing person. I’m just me, and that’s who I’ll always be.
