1. York: Five starters are back from a 34-6 team that finished fourth in Class 4A last season.

2. Hinsdale South: The Hornets welcome back AAU All-American Jessica Brezwyn and pick up Alesia Kroeger, a 5-11 transfer from Nebraska.

3. Lyons: The defending Class 4A champs have holes to fill, but they also have 6-foot setter and Illinois recruit Alexis Viliunas.

4. Joliet Catholic: The search for a setter is on for the defending Class 3A runner-up, which returns four starters from 2010.

5. Benet: The Redwings are looking for their fifth consecutive sectional-final appearance and have the talent to make it happen.

6. Mother McAuley: Six seniors begin their third year on varsity, including defensive dynamos Bridget Powell and Jackie Aird.

7. Marist: Lauren Zielinski is out indefinitely after having shoulder surgery.

8. Hinsdale Central: Might be the Red Devils’ best team ever.

9. St. Charles East: Seniors Meghan Niski and Maisey Mulvey have been around since the 2008 championship team and would like to go out the way they came in.

10. St. Ignatius: Junior
setter Sophia Dodd made
a huge splash at club
nationals and hopes to do the same for the Wolfpack.
