Girls Volleyball: Elmwood Park, St Joseph have seasons end in regional

The volleyball season came to a halt Monday night for both Elmwood Park and St. Joseph.
Regional host Immaculate Conception hosted a double header on opening night of the Class 3A playoffs, and both the Tigers and Chargers lost in straight sets.
Coming off a third-place finish in the Girls Catholic Athletic Conference White, St. Joseph couldn’t rally against Montini, as the Broncos claimed a 25-11, 25-6 win.
“I expected them, as always, to push hard,” St. Joseph volleyball coach Mari Gonzalez said. “It’s tough when you’re playing a team with more of an elite status than us. It’s hard. It’s easier said than done. I think these girls pushed. They struggled in the end, but they pushed.”
After taking Timothy Christian to three games during the regular season, Elmwood Park came in with a hint of confidence.
But that wasn’t enough, as the Trojans took a 25-10, 25-14 win.
“We knew that we beat them before, and we thought it was going to be a better game than it was today,” said Tigers senior libero Monika Pszczola, whose team ended the season 5-23. “I think everyone put a lot of heart into the game, especially in the second because the first we started off a little rough.”
Timothy Christian will advance to Tuesday’s semifinal against Nazareth, while Monitni will take on No. 1 seed Immaculate Conception.
