Girls Volleyball: TF South romps over Tinley Park

T.F. South senior Kylie Bechely had to admit it. She was worried going into the 2012 season.
“Being the only senior on the team, I was worried that I was going to have to teach everyone,” she said. “These were like my babies, so I was afraid we weren’t going to be good.”
They’re good. Very good, by most standards.
Thursday’s 25-10, 25-4 victory over host Tinley Park improved T.F. South to 18-6 overall, 8-2 in the South Suburban Blue.
Crystal Lee had 10 kills, Leah Lagestee three kills and four blocks, Ashtyn Kapovich eight digs, Abbe Mullen 17 assists and Briana Lilly four blocks for T.F. South.
Tinley Park (11-15-1, 6-5) was led by Katie Kopecky (5 digs) and Molly Brennan (3 kills).
Bechely’s contribution to the Rebels’ victory was a startling one. She went to the service line in Set 2 with South leading just 5-2. By the time Sam Alberto was able to put down a kill for Tinley Park it was 20-2.
Seven of the points during Bechely’s service run came via kills from the left side by Lee.
“I just tried my best to make smart decisions and hit it in,” Lee said. “We were just playing as a team out there, having fun.”
Mullen going to Lee multiple times during a service run is not out of the ordinary.
“She’s my strongest hitter in the front row and I know I can always depend on her when I’m in trouble with a set,” Mullen said. “She’s my go-to person.”
Bechely wasn’t just the only senior on the floor for T.F. South. Tinley Park didn’t any have. The Titans, with four sophomores and a freshman in the starting lineup, were a little overmatched at the net.
“We haven’t seen a block like that all year,” Tinley Park coach Lee Rucinski said. “They were firing on all cylinders. They’re a really good team, and that’s the reason they’re currently second in the conference (behind Lemont).”
