Coming off a stunning 2-0 win over Lemont, Providence wasn’t satisfied with just a regional title.

Maggie Corso scored with 2:19 left in the fourth overtime and the seventh-seeded Celtics pulled another surprise with a 2-1 win over Lincoln-Way West in a Class 2A Lincoln-Way North Sectional semifinal.

“The balls were rolling our way today,” Corso said. “Eileen (Kenny) gave me a perfect cross and I just kneed it hoping it’d go in. Thank God it did.”

Cori Brennan just missed the game-winner twice for West (15-7). Her goal in the first overtime was waved off by an offsides call and she put a shot off the crossbar in the final overtime.

West got on the board just over five minutes in as Brennan made a rush down the right side and fired a shot. Providence keeper Tess Barrett (five saves) appeared to misjudge the shot, thinking it was going wide. Instead, it tucked into the far corner for a 1-0 Warriors lead.

The Celtics (9-13-1) did not have a shot on goal in the first half, but quickly picked up the pressure after the break.

After controlling play for most the second half, Providence broke through after Corso was taken down in the box to earn a penalty kick.

Jamie Noonan did not waste the chance, firing the penalty kick low and to the right of Lojas to tie it with 7:53 left.

Lincoln-Way North 4, Plainfield East 0: Rita Craven scored twice as the host and top-seeded Phoenix (17-7-1) rolled. Jessica Bean and Lexi Cesario added a goal each.

North jumped to a 3-0 first-half lead.

“We’ve been getting off to good starts a lot lately” Craven said. “We know we can’t underestimate anyone.”

Michelle Balcerzak recorded the shutout. Plainfield East, which got three saves from Megan Wilson, finished 13-9-2.
