Girls Soccer: Lake Forest dominates its regional opener

Seven players scored as Lake Forest began tourney play by wiping out Wauconda 9-0 on Wednesday in the semifinals of the Class 2A regional at Grayslake North.
The Scouts (14-4-2) have dropped down this year due to an IHSA enrollment realignment, so they are playing in the 2A bracket for the first time rather than in 3A with the big schools lie New Trier.
Catherine Traut and Brooke Green each scored twice, and goalies Liz Clark and Jenny Revenaugh shared the shutout. Revenaugh faced a shot in the closing minutes.
The other goal-scorers were Kali Polich, Lucy Edwards, Ali Danneker, Carly Hoke and Gabby Perino.
“We came out and controlled things,” said Lake Forest coach Ty Stuckslager. “At halftime (up 5-0), we talked about a couple of things we wanted to accomplish and we did those things in the first few minutes of the second half.
The coach said that in games like this, it’s still possible to get some important work done.
“Everything is not necessarily to win as much as it is to improve,” he said.
Lake Forest got goals in the 3rd, 10th, 13th, 24th and 28th minutes of the first half, and in the 44th and 47th minutes of the second half.
That triggered soccer’s version of the running clock, in which 16:16 was taken off the clock.
The last two goals came with 15:11 and 6:07 left on the clock.
Wauconda finished its season 3-17.
