Catherine Traut scored a pair of goals to key Lake Forest’s 3-2 victory over Hersey on Wednesday on Day 1 of the Carmel Quad round-robin girls soccer tourney.

For her efforts, she received the “Squidward” award.

It is given after each game to the player did the best job annoying, frustrating, and creating general havoc for the opposing team/

(Squidward is an obnoxious character from the SpongeBob SquarePants cartoon.)

“I thought we played well. When we had chances we capitalized on them,” Traut said. “We’re still working on getting comfortable with each other, but our confidence is growing. We lost 16 people from last year, so we’re rebuilding with some younger players. I think we’ll show a lot of improvement over the course of the season.”

Traut’s second goal gave Lake Forest (2-0) a 3-1 lead in the 64th minute after freshman Brooke Green scored from Marina Katz in the 60th minute to break a 1-1 tie.

But Hersey made it 3-2, and had two shots at the equalizer. On the first, Lake Forest goalie Liz Clark came up huge with a minute to go. Then, with 24 seconds left, Hersey’s tying goal was waved off on an offsides call.
