Trinity’s Podkowa picks DePaul

When Trinity basketball star Megan Podkowa was sorting out her recruiting options, Blazers coach Eddie Stritzel didn’t try to push her in any direction.
But when Podkowa decided to give a commitment to DePaul and coach Doug Bruno on Tuesday, Stritzel couldn’t have been happier.
“Getting a chance to play for Doug Bruno was a big deal for Megan,” Stritzel said. “I played for (Bruno) when he was the (associate men’s head) coach at Loyola and I have enormous respect for him.”
Podkowa, a 6-1 forward, averaged about 18 points, nine rebounds, four blocks and three steals last season for the Class 4A sectional finalist Blazers.
She picked the Blue Demons over Indiana and also had scholarship offers from Michigan, Marquette, Wisconsin and Loyola, among others.
“We’re all just thrilled,” Stritzel said. “I talked to (Bruno) today and he’s on Cloud 9.”
