Girls Basketball: Craig Marek replaces Bryan Craig as Rich Central’s girls basketball coach

Eventually, Craig Marek hopes the coaching job he’s taking will bring to mind nothing but basketball.
For a time, though, he’ll be the guy who replaced Bryan Craig, the former Rich Central girls coach who resigned after penning a bawdy self-help book titled “It’s All Her Fault.” Craig subsequently was fired from his teaching position and is suing School District 227 for damages.
“I know it’s going to be a position that’s looked at because of the attention that’s been brought to it,” Marek said Tuesday. “But it’s really what I enjoy doing, coaching basketball. That outweighed the other stuff. I figure the negative stuff will fade away eventually.”
Marek resigned his position as the girls volleyball coach to take the new position. He had also served as an assistant basketball coach under Craig for six seasons.
Before coming to Rich Central, Marek coached girls basketball for five years at Kankakee. He took a team that finished 3-22 in his first season and transformed it into a conference championship squad during his final two.
“I’m excited,” Marek said. “I’ve been working in the girls basketball program for six years and I know a lot of the girls, so it shouldn’t be a super-hard transition. It’ll be a lot of work since we didn’t have a real summer program, but the girls have been running kind of on their own and working out. They want to be good.”
