Jacobs takes down Dundee-Crown

Revenge has proven to be sweet for the Jacobs soccer team so far in the Class 3A playoffs.
For the second straight match the Golden Eagles avenged a regular season loss to a conference rival and, as a result they claimed the championship of their own regional Saturday night in Algonquin.
Three days after beating Fox Valley Conference - Valley Division foe Huntley, they turned the tables on another league opponent, Dundee-Crown.
Jacobs got the only score of the match in the 54th minute to claim a 1-0 victory over the Chargers and earn a spot on Wednesday’s Barrington Sectional against Rockford Boylan.
The Golden Eagles (11-11) connected when Erik Soto sent a long free kick to Kenny Finn, who put in a short shot for his first goal of the season.
Keeper Nick Matysek came up with several big stops in the first half to record the shutout.
“We’re getting hot at the right time and starting to hit our stride now,” Matysek said. “This is the second team that we lost to in the regular season that we beat in the playoffs. We’ve got Boylan next. That’s another team that we lost to, but we played real well against them.”
Jacobs started the season 7-3, went through a 1-8 stretch, and has now won its last three matches. Dundee Crown, which finishes 9-10-3, had defeated the Golden Eagles 3-1 on September 29.
