Boys Basketball: Young’s hot first quarter overpowers Raby

Young won its home opener in impressive fashion with a 78-60 win over Raby in Red-West action on Wednesday. The Dolphins went on a 10-0 spurt, capped off by Miles Reynolds’ three-pointer midway through the first quarter, to build a commanding 20-4 lead with two minutes remaining in the period. At the end of the first quarter, the Dolphins (7-5, 4-1 Red-West) held a 24-8 lead, which evolved into a 59-41 lead after three quarters.

Young maintained a comfortable lead as Jahlil Okafor recorded a double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds. Okafor scored 13 points in the fourth quarter to turn away the Raiders, who never pulled closer than 11 points.

Gabriel Snider, who scored 9 of his 17 points during the Dolphins’ initial first-quarter run, made four three-pointers on the night. Paul White chipped in 12 points for Young.

Terry McDonald, Anthony Knowles and Jeremy Burkes each scored 12 points for Raby (6-12, 0-5).
