D.J. Morris and St. Viator kept things rolling Tuesday in the opening round of the Hardwood Classic in Wheeling.

Morris scored 22 points to lead the Lions past Maine West 62-42. St. Viator (11-0) has won all of its games by double digits.

“It’s that balance,” St. Viator coach Mike Howland said. “Every night can be one of six or seven different guys nights. Tonight it was D.J.’s.”

Morris, who was 8-for-12 from the field including 4-of-5 outside the arc, made it his night against Maine West (4-5).

“We are playing really well together right now,” said Morris, who had five of his team’s 15 assists.

“We hang out together and everything is clicking for us. We are finding our rhythm.”

The Lions showed that rhythm as they built a 31-20 lead at the half. And with Morris, Ore Arogundade (14 points, seven rebounds) and Chris Myjak (eight points) leading the way, St. Viator led 48-26 after three quarters.

“I thought before the game that D.J. would play well,” Howland said. “He always has energy. The gym had low energy. He is our spark and we can count on him for that.”

Conor Hart had 15 points for Maine West while Kevin Garcia had 14 points.
