Alvin Ellis saw his opening and never looked back.

The De La Salle junior forward made a crucial steal and dunk that shifted the momentum in the host Meteors’ favor in the 62-50 victory over No. 21 Farragut Tuesday night.

Ellis scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half for the Meteors (5-1). “That dunk got me going,” Ellis said. “My game in the first half was not there, and I knew I had to step it up.”

Behind the play of Farragut senior forward Rashaun Stimage, the Admirals (2-2) dominated early. Stimage threw down a spectacular tip dunk in sparking an 11-0 first-half run as Farragut bolted ahead 27-12 in the second quarter.

Stimage (19 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks) picked up his second personal foul with 6:37 left in the second quarter and sat the remainder of the half. In his absence, two of De La Salle’s junior inside players, 6-9 Gavin Schilling and 6-8 Alex Foster, seized control.

Schilling (20 points) scored six points to start a 17-4 De La Salle run, punctuating the run with a dunk. Foster added 15 points, eight rebounds and six assists.

“We took advantage of the right time of their big guy [Stimage] going out,” Ellis said.

Junior Marcus White (six points) hit back-to-back three-pointers for De La Salle to forge a 31-all tie at the break.

Ellis scored seven points during a 9-4 De La Salle run that pushed the Meteors out to a 46-41 lead to start the fourth quarter. His steal and dunk swelled the Meteors’ advantage to 52-43.

Senior guard Levell Boyd scored 14 points for the Admirals.
