Boys Basketball: Michael Orris powers Crete-Monee to win

Michael Orris and Marvie Keith showed Tinley Park just why teams with Crete-Monee on their schedule this season should be concerned.

The two guards put on a shooting clinic in a 67-45 victory Saturday might at the second annual Crete-Monee Shootout.

The Warriors extended a 30-20 halftime lead by opening the third quarter with an 8-0 run which included one of Orris’ four three-pointers.

The lead was cut down to six points with 1:40 left in the third quarter on a Tracey Brandy jumper, which capped a 16-4 Tinley Park run.

The Titan offense then fell silent for the next 4:11 as Crete-Monee scored the next 17 points. Orris and Keith contributed six points each to the run, making all their shots.

“We stuck together and came up with a big run that they couldn’t respond to,” said Orris, who made his season debut after being sidelined the first three games with a severe left ankle sprain.

The Illinois recruit finished with 19 points, making four of his seven three-point attempts. The 6-2 point guard, who also had two steals, is not worried about being under a microscope.

“I don’t feel pressure,” Orris said. “I’m here to prove to all those haters that I do deserve to play for Illinois.”

Warriors coach Tom Cappel agrees that Orris is ready for the spotlight.

“I don’t know if I need to prepare him,” he said. “He’s poised and I think he comes from a terrific background.”

Keith finished with 10 points and Laquon Treadwell added 14 points and seven rebounds for the Warriors (3-1).

Tinley Park (3-2) was lead by Eldridge Anderson’s 22 points.
