Boys Basketball: Robert Knar, Chino Ebube ignite Mundelein win

Host Mundelein went on a 14-3 run over a four-minute stretch of the fourth quarter to break away from a 48-48 tie and go on to beat Grayslake Central 71-61 on Monday night.
This was the season opener for both teams and came in Mundelein’s own six-team, round-robin tournament.
Mundelein will face Brooks from Chicago at 7:30 while the Rams get Lakes at 4:30 in today’s action.
Robert Knar hit 10-of-19 from the field and scored 25 points for the winners.
Junior high-flyer Chino Ebube (6-foot-3) added 18 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocked shots. Sean O’Brien had 12 points, all in the second half. He added nine boards and six blocks.
Jordan Taylor and Casey Boyle each had 18 points for the Rams. Boyle also had 10 boards.
It was 48-48 with seven minutes left. Knar bombed home a trey to break the tie and a bucket by Ebube made it 53-48. After a Ram free throw and a bucket to make it 53-51, Nate Brune hit a jumper, Ebube scored on a put-back, Ebube dunked, and O’Brien drained a 3-pointer to make it 62-51 and over.
“He’s really exciting and a great teammate,” said Knar of Ebube. “He’s a tremendous athlete. You saw with the dunk and the blocked shots, he can be a tremendous momentum-changer.”
Mundelein’s coach, Richard Knar, said this of Ebube.
“He is one of the best athletes I’ve coached,” he said. “He has such unbelievable explosion and gets to the rim so fast.
“The biggest thing with him is going to be having positive aggression and not fouling.”
