Simeon's Neely suffers ACL tear

Simeon's Jaleni Neely suffered a partial tear of his anterior cruciate ligament in July and underwent surgery on July 15.

"That will set us back a lot," Simeon coach Robert Smith. "He doesn't get the attention a lot of the other guys get, but he's so important to the team. He runs things exactly how I want.

Neely, a rising senior, is hoping to be back by October and be ready to go when Simeon starts the season in December.

Simeon is the unanimous number one in the state and will be one of the top ranked teams in the country this coming season. Rising juniors Jabari Parker and Kendrick Nunn have had impressive summers.

"Jabari thinks he's better than anybody right now," Smith said. "That's why he's really had a great summer. It's not in a cocky way, it's coming from other players. He just has a lot more confidence now."

According to Smith, rising senior Steve Taylor will not play football this season. He was a kicker for the Wolverines last season.

Jaylon Tate, a transfer from De La Salle, is with Simeon this season, but Smith said it will take Tate awhile in the system to "figure out exactly what is going on."<
