Boys Basketball: Tommy Hamilton Jr leaves Young

Thomas Hamilton Jr. has transferred from Young to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. according to his club basketball coach Mike Irvin.

“Tommy has left Young,” said Irvin, coach of the Mac Irvin Fire. “He’s enrolled at IMG but I’m not sure if he’s actually going to go there.”

Hamilton, a 6-9 senior, missed nearly all of last season with an injury and has been generally absent from the summer club scene. Irvin said he hopes Hamilton chooses to head to IMG and get his grades in order and his basketball career back on the right track.

"Tommy is a young kid with tremendous potential," IMG coach Loren Jackson said. "We are looking forward to working with him. He has indicated he is committed to taking on a new chapter both athletically and academically."

Hamilton entered Young as one of the “Big Three” group that included Simeon’s Jabari Parker and Alex Foster, who recently transferred from De La Salle to Seton.

“Throughout his career Hamilton has remained the quintessential enigma,” recruiting analyst Joe Henricksen said. “Every coach is completely aware of his talents, of his size and all the upside he possesses. But with a lack of seeing him play for any long stretch of time it has become impossible to evaluate what kind of a player he can be. As a result the rankings and everything have gone south.”
