Yorkville made it three wins in three games, two in conference play and one in a tournament, this season against Kaneland by defeating the Knights, 62-51, in Northern Illinois Big 12 East Conference on Friday in Kaneville. Cody Bailey scored 19 points to lead the Foxes.

“Our execution, on the offensive end, was real good,” said Bailey. “We got a lot of good looks. This is whole team effort. We just happen to play good every time we play them.”

With the score tied, 13-13, at the end of the first quarter, Foxes’ Joshua Williams (15 points) broke the game open with nine points in the second quarter to give the Foxes a 30-18 lead at the half. The Foxes (18-7, 4-5) outscored the Knights 17-5, including an 11-0 run to close out the quarter.

“We knew that they were going to come out and give us their best shot.” said Foxes’ Coach Dan McGuire. “We told our players to meet their intensity in the first quarter and see what happens in the second quarter. I think the second quarter was the turning point.”

The Knights (15-9, 5-4) couldn’t come back in the third quarter, falling behind 44-26. Thomas Williams scored 13 of his game-high 20 points in the second half, but it couldn’t help the Knights cut the lead despite a strong fourth quarter.

“When they got on that run in the second quarter, we couldn’t recover from that.” said Williams. “We fought back hard in the fourth quarter.”

The Knights outscored the Foxes 26-18 in the fourth quarter but fell short in the end.

“We weren’t attacking the bucket early and we couldn’t get any offensive rebounds,” said Knights Coach Brian Johnson. “They executed well and made some big baskets. We needed to be a little more solid offensively.”

Brandon Holmes had 12 points for the Foxes and Marcel Neil had 10 for the Knights.
