A 16-0 fourth-quarter run secured a 61-42 victory for Thornwood over Brooks Saturday night at the 2nd Annual Crete-Monee Shoot-Out.
Johnte Shannon scored seven of his game-high 29 points during that 4:49 stretch, which started with the Thunderbirds ahead by only five.
“Our defense didn’t let up,” he said. “We used our speed and quickness.”
Thornwood (4-2) had 11 steals and connected on seven three-point shots. They outscored the Eagles 23-10 in the fourth quarter.
“We have four or five guys who can knock down the three when they’re open,” said Thunderbirds coach Paul Slavich.
Darell Combs scored 18 points, including a pair of three pointers during a 9-0 Thornwood run in the second quarter that gave the Thunderbirds the lead for good.
“We were just being patient and taking what they were giving,” Combs said.
Brooks (3-3) was led by Dwight Cunningham, who scored 21 points. Xavier Wells added 14 points and five rebounds.
