Ewing, Shamrocks down Hilltoppers

St. Patrick outlasted Joliet Catholic for a 61-48 East Suburban Catholic Conference victory on Saturday night.

It was the Shamrocks' first win in the East Suburban Catholic Conference. Royale Ewing had the hot hand for the Shamrocks, scoring 15 points.

Both teams came into the game with a 0-2 record in ESCC play. Guards Breshion and Brequan Tucker led the Hilltoppers to a quick 10-4 lead after one quarter. But the Shamrocks fought back to take a 22-20 lead at the half.

Breshion Tucker hit four straight free throws to open the third quarter to tie the game at 28 with three minutes left in the quarter.

However, Jacob Williams (seven points), Guy DiBalsamo (10 points) and Ewing scored three straight baskets to put the Shamrocks in the lead 34-28. The Hilltoppers cut the lead to four points 37-33 at the end of the quarter.

Ewing took over in the fourth quarter, scoring three consecutive baskets to put the Shamrocks (3-4, 1-2) in command and lead his team to the win.

Breshion Tucker had 21 points and Brequan Tucker had 12 for the Hilltoppers (2-5, 0-3).
