Girls Soccer: TF Co-op rolls to Reavis championship

The trophy T.F. Co-op’s girls soccer team earned Saturday was a long time coming.
“From what I’ve heard, we haven’t won a trophy in 10 years,” T.F.’s Monica Munoz said. “We’re really happy and our coach (Alejandro Lagunas) is really happy.”
Munoz, a freshman, scored two goals and T.F. rolled past the host Rams 4-0 in the championship match of the Reavis Invitational.
Munoz’s sister, Andrea, and Jamie Kats also scored for T.F. (11-2), which is already one win shy of its total from a 12-9 campaign in 2011.
“We’ve got a good group of girls this year,” Lagunas said. “I’ve got to give them all the credit. We have girls who have played club and when you have skilled players like that, anyone could coach them.”
The championship game was a step up in competition for T.F. and a chance to validate its strong start.
The visitors wasted no time taking it to Reavis (8-3). Strong pressure off the opening kickoff led to a free kick from just outside the box and Kats buried it into the top-left corner for a 1-0 lead less than two minutes in.
T.F. came up empty the rest of the first half despite seven shots on goal, but quickly put the match away after the break.
Monica Munoz picked off a clearing attempt and scored on a high shot with 31:56 to go and Andrea Munoz found the net six minutes later.
“We’ve got a lot of skill at each position,” Kats said. “We balance each other out and we’ve jelled really well together. I think we have a lot more confidence (than in past years).”
Bianca Ruiz made three saves to record the shut out. Heidi Ibrahim had six saves for Reavis.
In Saturday’s semifinals, T.F. topped Queen of Peace 9-2 and Reavis beat Bremen 5-1. Chanel Koepke had a hat trick for the Rams in the semifinal win.
