Boys Basketball: Joliet Central takes advantage of Lincoln-Way Central errors
Updated: December 10, 2011 12:11AM
After seeing a seven-point halftime lead shrink to two in less than a minute, Joliet Central coach Jeff Corcoran wanted to see how his team would respond.
The result was very well, as was demonstrated all too clearly after the Steelmen scored 21 of the final 25 points in the third quarter against Lincoln-Way Central.
That third-quarter outburst gave the Steelmen a 40-21 advantage, and they went on to capture a 51-34 SouthWest Suburban Blue victory Friday night in Joliet.
“We talk to our guys about playing with composure and the choices that they make by being disciplined and unselfish,” Corcoran said. “So it was very good to see us be able play like we did.”
Joliet Central (5-2, 2-0) took advantage of 10 turnovers by the Knights (4-4, 0-2) in the third period to finally take control of what had been a close contest.
Nick Kowalkowski had eight points for the Knights.
