In a battle of two undefeated teams, the visitors from Wheaton Academy (3-0, 1-0) came out hot and stayed that way handing Guerin (2-1, 0-1) their first loss of the season by a score of 55-14 at Holy Cross Field in River Grove in the Suburban Christian Conference opener for both teams.
Senior Kai Libby did much of the heavy lifting for the victorious Warriors rushing for 182 yards on 17 carries and scoring three touchdowns including a 73-yard score to stake the visitors to a 21-0 lead late in the opening quarter. Senior quarterback Tommy Decker had a pretty good day of his own completing 16 of 25 passes for 221 yards, three touchdown passes, and an interception. Senior Sam Cote was his favorite target catching six balls for 96 yards. Cote also converted seven of eight extra points and put seven kickoffs through the end zone for touchbacks. Senior Jimmy Johnson caught three balls for 37 yards and two touchdowns while Tyler Bosse caught the other Wheaton scoring pass.
Guerin's offense had some trouble getting started as junior Justin Williams could only muster 39 yards on 11 carries. Senior Nick D'Alessandro was able to break a 40-yard scoring run with 8:23 left in the first half to draw the Gators within 21-7.
Junior quarterback Tommy Kelly also had a difficult day completing nine of 21 for 154 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions.
He connected three times with sophomore wide out John Dabe for 108 yards including an 89-yard scoring strike on a flea flicker early in the third quarter to make the score 35-14.
