Ciran leads tough all-area squad

OF: Kelly Christner, Andrew, so.: A two-time selection, the left-hander is one of the state’s top prospects. She hit .431 with four home runs, eight doubles and six triples. She added 32 RBI and 33 runs, stole 15 bases and had a .745 slugging percentage.

P: Amanda Ciran, St. Charles North, sr.: The Sun-Times 2011 Player of the Year and Loyola recruit led the North Stars to their first state semifinal appearance. Heading into today’s game, she’s 23-1 with a 1.11 ERA and 149 strikeouts. She hit .326, had 23 RBI, scored 23 runs and hit six home runs and seven doubles.

MIF: Nicole Evans, Trinity, so.: Hit .467, smacked eight home runs, drove in 50 runs and scored 45. She added eight doubles and one triple. She is also an outstanding and rangy infielder.

MIF: Allie Gaeding, Fremd, sr.: The dynamic shortstop was the Vikings’ emotional leader. She keyed the offensive attack with her aggressive baserunning, stealing 43 bases, scoring 43 runs and hitting .518 from the leadoff spot. Defensively, she was flawless.

P: Dani Goranson, Elk Grove, jr.: The Michigan State recruit pitched two no-hitters and had 17 shutouts en route to a 29-5 mark with an ERA of 0.81. Batters hit only .154 against her. Offensively, she hit .485 with five home runs and 34 RBI.

Utility: Brianna LeBeau, Richards, jr.: Hit .517, drove in 56 runs, scored 46 and hit 17 doubles, five home runs and four triples. She had a .977 slugging percentage and a .549 on-base percentage. As a pitcher, she finished 24-3, averaged seven strikeouts and had a 1.04 ERA. Played third, shortstop and first.

1B: Morgan Maize, Leyden, jr.: Smacked 18 home runs and had 77 RBI while hitting .427 with a 1.026 slugging percentage and a .468 on-base percentage. She also scored 38 runs. As a pitcher, she went 23-6 with a 1.18 ERA and 213 strikeouts.

OF: Maeve McGuire, Benet, so.: She hit .475 with 26 doubles, five home runs and two triples for the Redwings’ Class 4A semifinalist. She scored 48 runs and drove in 24. As a leadoff hitter, she has a .565 on-base percentage.

OF: Marissa Mersch, Downers South, sr.: The Wisconsin recruit is a repeat selection and ended her career with 250 hits, two shy of the IHSA record. As a senior, she batted .575, scored 53 runs and drove in 43. She had six home runs, four triples and 16 doubles.

C: Emily Naegele, Oak Forest, jr.: The Radford commit showcased a dominant two-way performance. She hit .649 with 12 home runs, 11 doubles and four triples. She also stole 22 bases, knocked in 53 runs and had a 1.186 slugging percentage. She committed one error and had a .997 fielding percentage.

P: Lora Olson, Sandburg, sr.: The Indiana recruit had a 19-5 mark. She threw one no-hitter and seven two-hitters and had eight shutouts. She struck out 187, averaging nearly nine per game, and walked .64 batters per game. She hit .374 and had 25 RBI.

3B: Taylor Russell, St. Charles North, sr.: Russell hit .459, drove in 44 runs, scored 36 and had a team-high seven home runs for the Class 4A semifinalist. She added 13 doubles and struck out six times in 111 plate appearances. She has a .766 slugging percentage and .951 fielding percentage.
