Boys Basketball: Top 10 national recruiting classes

1. Arizona: Coach Sean Miller continues to revive basketball in the desert, following up last year’s top 10 class with the top-rated class this year. Findlay Prep star Brandon Ashley and 7-footer Kaleb Tarczewski, a pair of top 20 players nationally, headline Miller’s impressive four-man haul that features four top 100 players.

2. North Carolina State: First-year coach Mark Gottfried has made quite a splash with a monster three-man class – and possibly more to come. Gottfried hit a home run by landing a pair of impact players in top 15 recruit Rodney Purvis, a big 6-4 scoring guard, and 6-7 wing T.J. Warren, a top 25 talent.

3. Indiana: A whole lot of talent (three top 50 players) with plenty of local flavor (three Indiana high school products) in coach Tom Crean’s program-changing, five-man class. Point guard Yogi Ferrell and 6-8 Hanner Perea, an Indiana prep school star, are future difference-makers.

4. Michigan: Mitch McGary, a 6-10 manchild and No. 2 ranked player in the country, committed last week. McGary is biggest recruit to land in Ann Arbor since the Fab Five. Big Dog’s son, Glenn Robinson III, and shooting guard Nick Stauskas, are two other top 100 talents in this top-flight class.

5. Providence: Providence? Yes, Providence. A new name in big-time recruiting as coach Ed Cooley will welcome a pair of top 25 national talents in point guard Kris Dunn and 6-6 scorer Ricardo Ledo.

6. North Carolina: As always, there is talent headed for Tobacco Road. The Tar Heels locked up four players among the top 75 in the country, including a pair of Midwest stars in Marcus Paige, a pure point guard from Iowa, and 6-6 J.P. Tokoto from Wisconsin.

7. Texas: Cameron Ridley, a 6-10, 230-pound center from just outside Houston, is among the top 10 players in the country and anchors a five-man class that also includes top 100 talents in 6-10 Prince Ibeh and point guard Javan Felix.

8. UCLA: Coach Ben Howland landed one of the nation’s best, most versatile players in 6-7 do-everything Kyle Anderson, one of the top five players in the class out of New Jersey. Anderson and 6-5 Jordan Adams, a top 75 player nationally, enough to push Bruins into top 10.

9. Pittsburgh: Steven Adams, a 6-11 power forward and native of New Zealand, is among the top 10 players in the country. He is joined by top 75 point guard James Robinson.

10. Kentucky: The 1-2 punch of scoring guard Archie Goodwin, one of the top 15 players in the nation, and big man Willie Cauley, a 6-10 center out of Kansas, keeps the John Calipari recruiting pipeline flowing.
