Simeon stars Taylor and Nunn commit

Two of Simeon's high-major college prospects made their college choices on Sunday.

Steve Taylor, a 6-8 forward, gave an oral commitment to Marquette and Kendrick Nunn, a 6-2 shooting guard, chose Texas A&M.

"The style of play at Marquette is going to suit Steve really well," said Taylor's club basketball coach, Mike Irvin. "[Marquette coach Buzz Williams] did a great job of recruiting him."

DePaul and Missouri were the other two top contenders for Taylor, who is widely considered the top player in the area's senior class.

"He knew Marquette was the school he wanted," Irvin said. "He decided he didn't want to waste any more time and was ready to get his commitment done."

Simeon coach Robert Smith confirmed that Nunn, a junior, gave an oral commitment to Texas A&M. Nunn showed numerous flashes of brilliance in limited playing time last season and cemented his status as a top recruit this summer on the club circuit.

Smith isn't aware of another Simeon player that has committed so early in his high school career.

"He wanted to get it done," Smith said.

Nunn and his family were on a visit at Texas A&M when they made the decision.

Taylor and Nunn are part of a loaded Simeon squad that also features Jabari Parker, the top-ranked player in the national class of 2013. The Wolverines will be the top-ranked team in the area next season, and probably one of the best teams in the nation.
