Q-and-A with Lincoln-Way West’s Sarah Wegrzyn

Is it a cool feeling to know you helped build L-W West’s program?

Last year’s group of seniors did it, too, helped build the program. The seniors this year, we tried to create our own mentality. It didn’t feel real that (the Providence loss) could be my last match. It’s a weird feeling.

Why Mercyhurst University?

At first I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go far, but they have athletic training which is what I want to major in. I’m from New Lenox, and it’s a similar small town. I called my mom after the visit and said, “It has places I actually know like Buffalo Wild Wings and a Jewel! I’ll be OK!”

Favorite Halloween candy?

Personally, I like Twix bars.

What is your favorite scary movie?

“The Blair Witch Project.” Very scary.

All-time best costume?

Definitely last year. My sister and a friend were the (Travel Channel’s) “Ghost Adventures” crew. People thought we were guys which was pretty fun. We had the cameras and beards and everything. We’re working on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles this year, samurai swords and everything.

Who is your celebrity prom date?

Patrick Sharp.

So the NHL lockout ...

I’m a big hockey fan. I was thinking about it. I can blame every problem I have on there not being hockey around. Definitely missing it.

What will you remember most about Lincoln-Way West?

Definitely volleyball, all the girls on the team. I’ve played with (teammate) Hannah Chesley for 12 years, and that we won’t be playing together next year, that will be tough.

As told to Tim O’Brien
