Boys Basketball: Bobby Locke relieved of coaching duties at Brooks by CPS

The dismissal late last month of Brooks boys basketball coach Bobby Locke caught Brooks principal Dushon Brown as much off guard as it did Locke.

Locke, who led Brooks to a city championship and a third-place finish in the Class 3A state tournament in 2011, was dismissed by the CPS Board of Education for what is believed to be a residency issue. The news became public Tuesday.

Locke works at Evanston High School and is a part-time employee at Brooks so is not required to live in the city.

The status of Locke’s son Erick, an All-Public League guard and honor student at Brooks is also in jeopardy.

Bobby Locke would not go into detail but said he is confident things will work out.

“I look forward to being given the opportunity to address any questions and erasing any and all doubt that may have led to this situation,” Bobby Locke said.

Brown said she can’t comment other than to say she was surprised by the action.

“I have to direct you to downtown,” Brown said. “Coach Locke is doing an excellent job and I was under the impression from the start of his hiring that everything was in order.”
