Girls Basketball: Ade resigns as Mother McAuley coach
Mother McAuley basketball coach Karen Ade had plans on returning to the bench next season after giving birth to twins in May.
But her plans have changed.
Ade announced her resignation Monday after explaining her change of mind to her players.
“I decided to resign to stay home with my family,” Ade said. “This was a stressful year, being pregnant with twins and having a 2-year-old at home.
“I always preach to the kids that family comes first and I think that this is the right time to do it. It’s going to be a lot of work raising three kids 2 and under.”
Ade, a McAuley graduate, coached for five seasons at Evergreen Park before returning to her alma mater in 2007. Her career record is 186-108. In five seasons at McAuley she was 106-51. Her teams won four regional titles.
McAuley athletic director Laurie Jakubczak replaced Ade on the bench on an interim basis for the last month of the season. Her full-time replacement has not been named.
“It was very tough (telling the players Monday),” Ade said. “I’ve been coaching for 10 years, and I’ve been fortunate to coach a lot of good kids. I treat the kids I coach like my own kids, so obviously, it was very difficult to tell them.
“As hard as a decision it was, I know I made the right one for my family. I know I will miss it because I have a passion for coaching, but some day I will be back at it.”
