Updated: August 2, 2012 10:44AM
West Aurora High School has named Tad Keely the new head coach of its girls tennis program. Keely replaces Brian Brooks, who retired after a 33-year career.
Keely, who will serve as a high school guidance counseler, has been the varsity assistant coach at Oswego High School for the past two years. He has also been a tennis instructor for both youth and adult camps through the Fox Valley Park District.
The son of Dave and Linda Keely — both long-time coaches at Oswego — Keely earned his bachelor’s degree in Spanish from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he was the long snapper on the football team. He has a master’s degree in school guidance counseling from Lewis University.
Keely is a graduate of Oswego, where he became the second athlete in school history to receive All-Conference honors in three sports (football, basketball, tennis). During his high school tennis career, Keely played both singles and doubles — twice qualifying for the state finals competition.
