In 1984, Simeon became the first Chicago Public School to win titles in the three major sports. The football team, led by quarterback Curtis Phillips, lost to Mount Carmel 28-6 in the Prep Bowl. The basketball team, led by Tim Bankston and Ben Wilson, won the Class AA state title. And the baseball team, led by future major leaguer Wes Chamberlain, won the city title.

The Wolverines have done it again this year. Junior Jabari Parker led the charge to basketball titles in city and state, quarterback Robert Gregory helped the Wolverines to the city football championship and this week Shane Brown propelled Simeon to the city baseball title with a victory against Lane.

“The triple crown [winning titles in basketball, baseball and football] is something all the coaches had talked about before the season started — we knew we had a chance at it,” Simeon basketball coach Robert Smith said. ‘‘And we were all there to watch it happen on Monday. It’s a huge accomplishment and sets the bar very high for everyone next year.”
