FC Barrington, featuring several players who helped Barrington High
School win last fall's Class AA state title, won the Cup to advance to
the 2008 U.S. Youth Soccer Region II (Midwest Regional) Championships
in Rockford.
While many believe the Wildcats had the toughest road just to get to the state finals, there is little doubt as to who had the toughest two games during the final weekend – the Broncos.
Bret Hruby wanted to score badly for Neuqua Valley. With 10
minutes remaining in regulation and Champaign Centennial playing
nationally-ranked Neuqua to a 2-2 game Saturday, Hruby began to get
nervous.
The Barrington Broncos beat Neuqua 2-1 on senior midfielder Ryan Nolan's
redirection of teammate Cameron Reilly's free kick at the 4:04 mark of
the third overtime - the longest Class AA championship game ever.
